Two years ago Ekaterina Shcherbina came to work in Moscow, while her children and husband stayed in Novocherkassk. In a strange city, it was difficult and lonely for her. To take her mind off her problems, she took up aikido.

Ekaterina thought that she would be so tired in training that there would simply be no strength left for sad thoughts. But it turned out that aikido is not only and not so much physical activity. This is philosophy. This is a different way of looking at life. And most importantly, it is the art of relaxation: if you come to training in a state of stress, you are guaranteed to get injured.

"It turns out that during stress, the muscles of the back, neck and shoulders are tense, and therefore blows to these places are very traumatic." Before training, you must definitely disconnect from problems. And after it, it suddenly turns out that everything is much less dramatic than it seemed before. You begin to look at events not emotionally, but rationally. And over time, a momentary switching reflex is developed.

At first it seemed to Katya that the sensei (teacher) was simply mocking her, repeating endlessly: “Relax, relax, relax”, but then she realized that this is the most important thing in aikido. And the higher the given (level) of the student, the better he knows how to relax. “The feeling of complete relaxation cannot be described, you can only feel it,” Katya smiles. In addition, aikido, like any physical exercise, allows you to get rid of aggression. Fight in sparring, run three kilometers, swing on the simulator, and all the anger goes somewhere. And, although this is military equipment, its goal is not to destroy, but to neutralize. After classes, Katya has a feeling of euphoria, delight. Katya says that after two years of intense training, aikido has made her more balanced. Now she knows how to remain calm, no matter what happens.


When Marianne started her real estate business, she was very interested. But five years later, a favorite thing has become a routine, from which it is impossible to rest or distract. And Marianne realized that something urgently needed to be changed.

Marianna tried belly dancing, yoga and gymnastics at the gym, but nothing worked. Even during class, her head was busy with work. She just couldn't switch until tango came into her life. It was nothing like what they show in the movies. Real tango is not danced in public. This is a method of communication, expression of feelings, paired meditation. It's sensual sex and shy chaste flirting. Tango is based on improvisation, on the joint weaving of one luxurious carpet. Real tango is four legs, two heads and one heart. “The couple moves as one,” says Marianne. “You can close your eyes and enjoy.”

Every evening, tangueros dress up in evening gowns and gather for milongas (special dance parties) - alone or with friends. There is a special etiquette in tango: they invite you to dance with a glance, sometimes even from the opposite end of the hall. Your eyes meet, a nod or smile signifies agreement. You leave the table and meet on the dance floor. Tangeros never lavish ambiguous smiles and never leave the milonga in pairs. The whole company did not know where her owner actually ran during lunch. On the dance floor, Marianne was waiting for her partner and teacher Sergei - a dancer with a ballet background, who had long abandoned staging choreography. “For an hour and a half, I turned from a director into a woman who allows a man to lead me,” she says. - I used to go to milongas and catch the looks of men on me. I began to look and dress differently. Is it difficult to combine tango with work? On the contrary, it is difficult to work without it!”.

Extreme driving

When the economist Inna Martyanova is sitting in the office at the computer, it's hard to imagine that this serious woman spends her weekends knee-deep in mud. Inna is engaged in off-road tourism, mountaineering and rock climbing. This relaxation saves her from stress.

The emotions experienced by a person who is fond of extreme sports are almost impossible to experience in everyday life. It's such a thrill that it just can't be compared to everything that happens at home and at work.

“I have always had unusual hobbies in my life,” says Inna, “and therefore I did not have to consciously deal with stress. I guess I have an increased tolerance for stressful situations.”

At different times, Inna was fond of all kinds of active tourism: mountaineering, river rafting. Her latest passion is off-road tourism. What does it mean? That, together with like-minded people, Inna rides on her old Niva to where no man has gone before. Innino's husband not only approves of the hobby, but also completely shares it: Konstantin now travels with his wife as a navigator.

Despite the extreme nature of her hobbies, Inna tries to avoid situations that endanger her life. Of course, it can be scary, but this is not a panic horror, but a kind of fear that can be overcome with a sober calculation.

“Sometimes you drive up to a cliff: below is a mountain river. And you have to go to the other side … Stones, water boils … It's scary … But then you start thinking: what if we pass here? Or shall we walk carefully here? The descent does not turn into a jump into the abyss, but into a logical puzzle. And when you solve it, no matter how scary it is, you need to put pressure on the pedals and go. But when you overcome an obstacle, a state of absolute happiness sets in: ah yes me! What a fine fellow I am! It's the same feeling you get in the mountains when you climb to the top. Climbing is very difficult, all sorts of difficulties and dangers await, but when you get to the top, it's an amazing feeling! You are on top of the world, and there is nothing around - only clouds below…”

Horse riding

Yulia does not hide her age. She is 49, she is slim, cheerful and cheerful. When she smiles, her eyes glow with zest for life. And it is impossible to guess that a year ago, misfortunes broke into her calm life one after another.

The doctor pronounced the diagnosis - cancer. His eyes dimmed, he couldn't breathe. Only a couple of days later, the meaning of what was said reached Yulia: she needs to have an operation, there is a chance. Then there was a hospital, an operating table, white coats. The treatment went well, Julia thought that she had coped with the biggest test that God can send to a person. But in fact, the tests were just beginning. The bank where Yulia worked as a translator soon closed. She quickly found a new job, but the team, consisting entirely of young girls, did not accept an adult woman with dull eyes. And then something happened that turned her view of the world upside down: her father died. “We still don’t know what happened to him,” Yulia says, “he was absolutely he althy, and he died overnight. When I found out about this, it was like a cap was put on me. I began to hear, see, understand worse. Until that moment, she had no idea what depression was, how you could sob for hours, unable to stop. During the day, gathering her willpower into a fist, she worked. In the evenings I cried, I cried, I cried.

Horses helped her get out of this state. Yulia began skating shortly before the tragic events. The reason was the performance of the Zingaro Horse Theater, which made a strong impression on Gorbachev. Yulia found a club and a coach, and started exercising. For a long time nothing worked, but she turned out to be a stubborn student. Girlfriends assured that it would be easier and cheaper to go to a psychologist and drink medicine. It seemed to Yulia that the doctors did not listen to her, that the pills only harmed her. And as soon as the foot touched the stirrup, the headache passed and the tears receded. There is a completely scientific explanation for what happened to Yulia Gorbacheva. In medicine, there is the concept of "hypotherapy". This is a technique that is used to treat many diseases. The horse has a beneficial effect on the motor skills of a person, whether sick or he althy, helps to open up to the world around, gives confidence in one's own strengths. “At some point, I was ready to give up,” Yulia recalls, “but when I galloped for the first time, I felt a long-forgotten feeling of boundless happiness.”
