Heavy cast iron is a thing of the past. Its modern counterpart is made of lightweight materials, looks stylish, glides easily and naturally… But even the most expensive and multifunctional iron will not iron an ordinary men's shirt if it is in inept hands.

HOW TO IRON THE SHIRT?

Men's shirt needs to be ironed in a certain sequence: first the collar, yoke, cuffs, sleeves, placket, and then the front and back. You need to iron from the front side, but if the shirt is dark in color or decorated with embroidery, then from the inside, so that the pattern is more convex. Iron the collar from the corners to the middle from the inside out, then the same way from the front side. Then iron the yoke. After ironing the cuffs (without bending or folding them!), iron the sleeves from the top down. Next, slowly iron the bar, one shelf, the back and the other shelf. If the buttons are not fully fastened, the back is ironed by folding the shirt in half, and then the crease is smoothed out. But you can also iron in the round by putting the shirt on the ironing board.

  • Linen and cotton shirts do not dry out, iron them slightly damp. Although if you have a good fabric softener, you can iron completely dry shirts.
  • If you dry your linen shirt, a terry towel soaked in hot water will help make ironing easier - wrap the shirt in it for a couple of minutes, and then start ironing.
  • Iron reverse side of shirts made of shiny fabrics, otherwise they will fade.
  • It is better to iron silk shirts completely dry, but through a damp thin cotton fabric (gauze leaves prints).
  • Real silk shirts should not be sprayed with water - after ironing, stains will remain.
  • If a woolen shirt has shrunk after washing, it can be moistened and through a dry cloth, stretched to the desired size, dried with an iron. If it remains even a little wet, then it will certainly sit down again.

USEFUL INFO

  • Blouses and tops made of lightweight fabrics cannot be ironed after improper washing. Therefore, they do not need to be squeezed out, it is better to shake and hang to dry. This will make it easier to smooth them out.
  • To make the crease on the trousers last longer, rub the fabric from the inside with dry soap along the crease line, then turn the trousers inside out and iron through the damp fabric.
  • Long curtains and tulle are more comfortable to iron, folded in several layers, without ironing the folds. Then you can unfold them and iron only the folds.
  • But bed linen is not recommended to be ironed. Although it looks great and some germs are destroyed by the iron, ironed linen absorbs moisture worse. We sweat at night, and if the sweat is not absorbed, a person can easily get sick. And it’s really bad if the linen is starched - it practically loses its absorbent capacity. Therefore, bed linen is usually ironed only in hotels, and at home it is recommended to sleep on unironed, even for babies. Sets should be changed at least once a week.

DID YOU KNOW WHAT?.

  • To steam fabrics, it is better to pour distilled water into the iron (it is sold in stores). It does not form s alt deposits in the iron reservoir, and you will not have unpleasant surprises in the form of stains when ironing.
  • During the defrosting of the refrigerator, you can collect a little snow "fur coat", melt it, and then pour it into the iron. This is distilled water, only not purchased, but "home-grown", free.
