Ringworm is the most common summertime illness in children, affecting the skin, hair and nails. The source of infection, as a rule, are sick animals - both homeless and domestic, which in the summer can also catch this disease if they were not vaccinated on time.

The first thing to do is to examine the baby's skin, head and nails.

  • Small spots will tell about the disease - more often they are pink-red in color and can be covered with a crust or bubbles. They have a rounded shape or consist of rings inscribed one into the other. The affected area is likely to be covered with greyish-white scales, as if dusted with flour.
  • If you suspect a child has lichen, go to the doctor - lichen is not a dangerous disease, but contagious. If lichen appears on the scalp, the hair has to be shaved.
  • If you find a stain on a child, do not wet this place.
  • Do not use folk remedies - burnt newspaper, products containing sulfur. This can cause the stain to swell and grow.
  • In the clinic, the child will be scraped for analysis and the diagnosis will be clarified. If the suspicion of lichen is confirmed, a treatment will be prescribed, which lasts about 6 weeks and is carried out externally.

How the rest of the family should behave during treatment

  • Things and items for personal use should be wiped with disinfectants.
  • Child must use personal towel, comb, linen.
  • Don't share the same bathroom.

Precautions

  • You must not touch homeless animals, and pets must be shown to the veterinarian in the summer.
  • Wash hands with soap and water after any contact with animals.
  • If you need to use other people's things, such as a comb, wash them. Iron underwear and hats with a hot iron.
