Fighting mold

Heat and high humidity are ideal conditions for mold to spread. Let's try to get rid of this malicious enemy with the help of available means

Main issues:

1. Linens, towels and clothes that smell damp and have dark stains.

2. Mold on walls and bathroom curtain.

3. Furniture stored in a damp room.

How to fight

As soon as mold spores enter a warm, humid environment where there is not enough light, they immediately begin to multiply at a high rate, leaving dark spots, which we call mold. Most often, such stains appear on towels, outdoor upholstered furniture and clothes stored in the country. To remove such stains, take the items outside and leave them in the sun until they are completely dry. Then, using a stiff-bristled brush, brush off the mold spores (do this outside - otherwise the spores can spread to other surfaces in the house). For washable items, soak in all-purpose bleach for half an hour, then rinse and launder as usual. Treat fabrics that cannot be washed by wetting the stains with bleach. Wait a few minutes, then wipe with a damp cloth and dry well.

2. Getting rid of mold in the bathroom

If the walls of the bathroom are covered with a moldy mesh, you need to contact a special service, because you can not cope with such a problem on your own. But small stains of mold on the walls can be removed in the following way: dissolve a glass of chlorine bleach in 3-4 liters of warm water. Put on rubber gloves, dip the brush into the solution and rub the stains. Wait a few minutes without removing the solution, and then wash it off with a damp cloth. A waterproof bath screen is easier to handle: wash it on a delicate cycle in hot water with chlorine bleach. Then dry on the minimum temperature for a couple of minutes so that water does not drip from the curtain, and hang it in its original place.

3. Refreshing furniture

Wooden furniture that is stored in a humid place often gets moldy and smells damp. Vacuum it with a soft brush attachment to remove mold spores (be sure to change the dust bag afterwards). Add some all-purpose detergent to warm water. After dipping a rag in water and wringing it well, wipe it quickly (trying not to wet the wood too much). Then wipe the surface with a clean, slightly damp cloth, dry and polish. To keep cabinets from smelling damp, sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom of the drawers and vacuum after a few hours.

To make it easier next time:

• Leave the bathroom door open after taking a bath or shower.

• Try Henkel's Stop Wet Moisture Absorption System with Absorbent Tablets to remove excess moisture and help fight mold and mildew. One tablet is enough for 2 months.
