Scientists from the Netherlands examined more than 20 thousand men and women aged 20 to 65 years. They were followed up for 10 years. It turned out that those people who had problems with the waist, the risk of death from heart attacks was four times higher than the average. The researchers found that the maximum allowable waist circumference is 100 cm for men and 90 cm for women. Anything above that can be considered overweight. A he althy waist circumference for men is 92.5 cm, and for women it is 78.5 cm.
In previous studies, scientists have already proven that being overweight doubles the chances of dying from heart attacks. Meanwhile, in Russia, overweight occurs in almost 50% of the adult population and more than a third of children.
Dutch scientists who conducted the study urge people with a "problem" waist to switch to a he althier diet and pay more attention to sports exercises. And the rounder your stomach, the more often you need to visit the doctor for regular heart checks.
