Parents who work hard at work can harm their children. In particular, they may experience lower school performance, as dad and mom's stress caused by overwork and excitement is easily transferred to children, researchers have found.

The harder the parents work hard, the sometimes more irresponsible their offspring behave. A mother comes home tired and depressed every day, while her son gets F's, fights with classmates, and is quite cynical about education and exams. "For whom am I tearing myself up like this?" - the parent usually exclaims sadly, not realizing that she herself is the culprit of the child's bad behavior.

Scientists from the Finnish Academy of Sciences have found that stress can be contagious. They interviewed more than 500 teenagers to find out when psychological breakdowns and "holes" occurred in their lives. Exactly the same questions were asked to their parents.

It turned out that the more stressful the working environment was for fathers and mothers, the more psychological problems arose in their children. And the fathers, who returned from work extremely exhausted and, as they say, "nothing", had exhausted and "no" sons. Exactly the same connection was between mothers and daughters.

"Fathers serve as role models for sons, and mothers for daughters," says Professor Katharina Salmela-Haro. “The more financial problems in the family, the more stress the parents experience, the worse psychologically their children are.”
