The British government finally equalized the rights of dads and moms
The duration of legally guaranteed maternity leave after the birth of a child in the UK is nine months. So far, only women have been eligible. But now the father of the child will be able by law to replace the mother in the last three months of her vacation, allowing the wife to return to work ahead of schedule. The theoretical duration of paternity leave could be up to six months.
This innovation is actively disliked by business leaders, who have calculated that they could lose £25.5bn from maternity leave of worker fathers. Most British women, on the other hand, are very supportive of this law. For many of them, a career is not the last place in life, so they have to be torn between maternal duties and work.
At the same time, the country is full of fathers for whom the service is not so important. And they would be happy to sit at home with the child if the authorities let them go on maternity leave. Now they will get that opportunity.
