In the suburbs this Monday, children from shelters danced and ate pancakes with the country's first lady, Svetlana Medvedeva. In a white hat and white fur coat, Medvedev looks like the most important Russian snow maiden.

Inmates of the orphanage for girls of the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent, the Krasnogorsk social rehabilitation center for minors and several boarding schools from other areas of the Moscow region were invited to the holiday.

Svetlana Medvedeva did not come empty-handed. She brought skates for children and certificates for plasma TVs for educational institutions.

Children were amused by clowns, buffoons, folklore ensemble "Poverye" with a trained bear cub. In the equestrian arena they showed performances on horseback - with horsemen and sabers. Tents with tea and pancakes were set up outside.

“I hope you enjoy and remember this holiday very much. Today you met new friends, new impressions. I want to wish you all joy, happiness, fun, good he alth, success in any of your endeavors. I hope the year will be as merry as today's Maslenitsa,” Medvedeva said.

At the end of the day, according to tradition, an effigy of Shrove Tuesday was burned.

The holiday was organized by the Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives headed by Medvedeva.
