Englishwoman Antonia Kim saved her family from ruin with cupcakes
The financial crisis hit the Kim family hard. Because of the growing debts, the bank threatened to take away from them the house that they built themselves and in which they lived for 12 years. Antonia had to pawn her wedding ring and the first expensive gift from her husband in her life - a Rolex watch with three diamonds of one carat each. She needed £5,000 to fix her car. The woman had only one choice - to stand behind the stove.
One day she went to the local supermarket where she spent as much as £100 buying plastic containers, eggs, icing, flour and braid. And at home, she immediately prepared 1,000 small cupcakes with various fillings - chocolate, coconut and strawberry. They were all decorated with icing and edible rose petals. The woman got into the car, drove around the area and distributed her cupcakes in cafes, restaurants, bars and even school cafeterias.
Homemade food made a splash among visitors. Orders poured into Antonia's house. One client asked me to make a thousand cupcakes for the Cambridge University graduation. Restaurants and cafes demanded industrial quantities of sweets - muffins became a wild success. From October to December last year, Antonia sold 1,200 cupcakes every weekend.
In three months this little "kitchen" business brought in over £14,000 in net profit. The house was saved, the family escaped ruin. And in the spring of this year, Antonia's husband found a new job, and with finances it became even better. But the woman continues to make her wonderful cupcakes. She dreams of opening her own production to feed all of England with these wonderful delicacies.
