Apples strengthen the immune system

Apples, nuts and beans boost the human immune system, scientists have found

Just one apple a day can be enough to save yourself a visit to the doctor about inflammatory processes associated with diseases due to excess weight. This conclusion was made by scientists from the University of Illinois.

They claim the soluble fiber found in beans, apples and nuts reduces inflammation and boosts the immune system. "Soluble fibers change the identity of immune cells," says Professor Gregory Freund. - From anti-inflammatory, "evil" cells, they become anti-inflammatory, healing. These cells help us recover quickly from an infection.”

Soluble fiber increases the production of the anti-inflammatory protein interleukin-4 in the human body, as Professor Freund found out. During the study, laboratory mice were fed a low-fat diet. But one group of rodents received a diet with soluble fiber, while the other did not. Six weeks later, scientists injected mice with lipopolysaccharides (a combination of lipid and carbohydrate) that cause the body to behave as if it were being attacked by a bacterial infection.

It turned out that those sitting on a diet with soluble fibers got sick only by half compared to mice from the other group. In addition, they recovered 50% faster.
