A unique case in the history of world medicine and IVF - this child has three mothers at once.
A unique case in the history of world medicine - one child has three mothers at once.
Cheryl Richards is now pregnant, she is four months pregnant. However, this baby will not be completely native to Cheryl, because she is just his surrogate mother. Through in vitro fertilization (IVF), the fertilized egg of another English woman named Cathy Sideway was placed in her uterus.
But Katie will not be a real mother to her unborn child! This 27-year-old girl agreed to become an egg donor after she met Claire Horner during one of the London exhibitions and learned her story. The mother of four-year-old son Jack has fought and beaten breast cancer three times over the past few years. Each time Claire gave strength to this struggle, only one thought - she dreamed of having a second child.
But oncologists categorically forbade the woman to give birth, because pregnancy could provoke another, already fatal relapse of cancer. Then Claire decided with her husband to find a surrogate mother. She became Cheryl. Three times the Horner couple and their benefactor traveled to Cyprus to a clinic where IVF is performed. And three times they failed, using an egg from an anonymous donor fertilized with the sperm of Claire's husband Dennis Horner.
Only the appearance of Katie Sideway in their lives helped to achieve what they wanted. Doctors believe this is the first such case in IVF practice in the UK.
