For many years, the model of male beauty in modern culture was a muscular man with regular features, abs, powerful legs and heavy fists. But over the past 10 years, the ideal man has lost a lot of weight.
Today, model youthful proportions bordering on anorexic bony are becoming increasingly popular. If earlier young people were embarrassed by sunken chests and thin arms, today they are considered almost perfect.
And this is true not only for the podium. The segment of plastic surgery catering to men is growing rapidly. In 2009, the increase in the number of breast reduction surgeries among the stronger sex was 49%. If in 1990 of all patients suffering from anorexia and bulimia, men represented only 10%, today it is already 25%. But the number of female patients has not changed over the same time.
A significant proportion of teenagers are dissatisfied with their own bodies. Guys today don't just want to lose some weight, they want to be thin. The culture of the new male body, promoted by fashion magazines and television, is captivating.
And what about Arnold Schwarzenegger or, at worst, Hugh Jackman? Officially, they are still considered the standard of male beauty. And unofficially - something from the category of "retro".
