The premiere of the musical "Princess of the Circus" took place at the Moscow Musical Theater on October 12.
During the evening, even the entrance to the theater turned into a circus dome - numerous star guests walked along the red carpet: Naina Yeltsina, Andrei Konchalovsky, Nikolai Svanidze, Larisa Verbitskaya, Anastasia Myskina, Sati Kazanova. Ekaterina and Alexander Strizhenov, Alika Smekhova, Sogdiana, Ekaterina Guseva, Elena Borshcheva, Vladimir Levkin, Soso Pavliashvili and others. For Olesya Sudzilovskaya, the premiere was the first appearance after the birth of her second child, and she shocked everyone with her beautiful shape and literally shone with happiness. Yvonne, the daughter of Imre Kalman, came to Russia specially for the premiere. The performance became a joint Russian-Canadian production: the well-known Canadian director from the 7 fingers circus, Sebastian Soldevilla, worked on the musical. The guest of the evening was also the Ambassador of Canada to the Russian Federation, John Sloan.
The two parts of the performance flew by like a few minutes, and the deadly trick of Mister X, which is performed by only 4 people in the whole world, the audience watched with bated breath. A flurry of applause was received by Carolina performed by Alexei Kolgan: ten fouettes in heels, subtle humor and incredible artistry made him one of the main characters of the evening. The main roles were played by Maxim Zausalin and Yulia Vostrilova, who were also met with thunderous applause. Yefim Shifrin was transformed beyond recognition in the role of the main intriguer Poisson, specially created for him. At the end of the performance, the artistic director of the Musical Theater Mikhail Shvydkoy invited all the creators of the play and performers in both casts to the stage, and from behind the curtains they carried a huge bouquet from Polad Bulbul-oglu, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation, a famous Soviet pop singer in the past.
Yvonne Kalman: “My father had a dream that the circus would be integrated into this performance, and today for the first time in 90 years this has come true. My father would be happy. This is an amazing performance!”
Larisa Verbitskaya: “Literally from the first chords of the live orchestra, the atmosphere of the circus wings smelled from the hall. For me, this particular place is sacred, because exactly 32 years ago my husband and I met at the circus. He was filming a movie and I ended up there quite by accident, so the circus for me is eternal music. Not to mention the fact that this is a completely new reading, a unique combination of choreography and vocals, dances, costumes, irony - a complete feeling of a holiday, and I know for sure that I will send all my friends and acquaintances here, because it is simply impossible not to see it !”
Ekaterina and Alexander Strizhenov: “We are trying to remember when we saw a classical operetta and how it differs from this performance. In this project, everything revolves, of course, around Mr. X, since all women dream of unraveling his secret. Here his charisma, voice, figure are of great importance. His aria was very important for us. And here the circus is very organically integrated into the performance. So organic that you don't even remember it wasn't in the original version. It is not clear how the artists do not take their breath away, because it is incredibly difficult to do circus steps and sing.”
