The name of one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer will soon be found only in the history of medicine
Employees of the Novosibirsk Medical Research Center. E. N. Meshalkina, together with researchers from the Vector Center for Virology and Biotechnology, have developed a vaccine against skin cancer - melanoma.
This type of cancer affects people of all ages. A malignant disease appears as a result of a mutation of the melanocyte cells responsible for sunburn.
"There are different schemes for the treatment of oncology - drug, chemical, targeted therapy, but we want to use the body's own forces to fight the tumor," said Alexander Zheravin, director of the Center for Oncology and Radiotherapy. He also said that he has received positive results from animal studies.
“This protein triggers a cascade of immune responses that lead to the activation of immune cells against melanoma cells,” explained Elena Bobrova, an employee of the Center for Radiotherapy and Oncology, in an interview with TASS.
