This family was "lucky" to experience the longest obsession in history: 15 years. The Smurl didn't just believe in ghosts or demons, they were convinced they existed. But to believe in this story or not, it's up to you, we'll just share an entertaining story.

15 Years of Ghost Attack: The Smurl Family Obsession Story
15 Years of Ghost Attack: The Smurl Family Obsession Story

In 1974, Jack and Janet Smurl and their children moved out of their flood-damaged home into a duplex that, while in need of repair, was quite habitable. Jack's parents also moved there, they settled at the other end of the house.

It all started innocently - with small losses and stains on the walls showing through the paint. Nothing terrible, to be honest. But then the stoves in the kitchen started turning on even when no one was touching them, and that was worse. And then came the smell, as cinematic as it sounds, members of the Smurl family described it as the smell of rotting flesh. They claimed that the stench disappeared as suddenly as it appeared, but was completely unbearable.

One of the most eerie manifestations of the paranormal was voices. At night, moans and weeping could be heard in the house, penetrating through the walls. Residents said that in these voices they heard their long-dead relatives and that in such a sophisticated way the spirits are trying to drive them crazy.

Later, visual effects were added to the sound effects - Smurl began to see vague ghostly figures. Moreover, Janet complained that at night she woke up from the fact that someone tried to have sex with her.

Demons or not, the house was in desperate need of repairs - a piece of the ceiling fell on one of the daughters, severely cutting her face. Another was pushed in front of the stairs, and the unfortunate dog, a German shepherd, was completely thrown against the wall.

Great duet

What did the inhabitants of the strange house do? What all Americans who encountered the paranormal did in those years: they contacted Ed and Lorraine Warren - yes, the same ones from The Amityville Horror. They visited the house and confirmed that something supernatural really lives in it.

Ed Warren claimed to have seen something eerie: "I didn't have to wait long before the temperature dropped sharply in the place where I was standing, and a dark substance formed into a figure a few meters away."

Ed and Lorraine were not the first time faced with mystique, so they knew what to do. They called the family to a group prayer, but the creature in the house did not like it, a cry was heard: “Dirty bastard, get out of this house!”, And the whole house seemed to shudder. The Warrens claimed to have seen two ghostly women dressed in colonial fashion. Lorraine believed that four ghosts lived in the house: an elderly lady who hardly showed herself in any way, an old man, also harmless, a girl and some demonic entity. The last two were the source of all the evil.

What if…

…were there no demons? Is it all about mass hallucinations? In 1983, Jack Smurl underwent a difficult operation due to complications from meningitis, which he suffered as a child. Doctors, according to Jack, "removed water" from his brain. Probably Jack had a tumor, because of which he saw these strange entities. But why did his wife and children claim to have seen ghosts too? Did they believe what they said or did they not want to contradict the head of the family?
